The holiday season is full of opportunities to give to families in need. Many of our local food pantries are asking for healthier donations. These pantries also have the capability of receiving fresh produce and have refrigeration units to accommodate low-fat dairy donations. If you are able to donate, consider these needed health items:

  • Grains: whole grain pasta, brown rice, whole grain crackers & breads, whole grain cereals like oatmeal or Cheerios.
  • Fruits: fresh fruit or fruit canned in juice
  • Vegetables: fresh vegetables or vegetables canned with no added salt/sodium
  • Protein: canned tuna or salmon in water, all natural peanut butter, no or low sodium beans
  • Dairy: 1% or non-fat milk, low-fat yogurt, shelf stable non-fat or 1% milk, shelf stable calcium fortified dairy alternatives such as almond, soy (non-flavored), or rice milks.
