The following information was released from the Idaho State Board of Education on October 21, 2020:
Schools and families have been hit hard by COVID-19, causing serious disruption to our students’ education. We are writing to ask for your help in getting the word out to your families about Idaho’s Strong Families, Strong Students grant initiative. Strong Families, Strong Students will provide resources to Idaho families to help with their child’s learning.
The program will launch October 21st, and families can apply at strongfamilies.idaho.gov. Strong Families, Strong Students is funded with $50 million in federal coronavirus relief funds. It enables eligible families to securely access $1,500 per child or up to $3,500 per family credit. Act fast! Enrollment will be open from October 21, 2020 to December 8, 2020.
The district is aware Panhandle Health District has moved Kootenai County into “orange”. The district continues to monitor the situation. A parent input survey was emailed to families on Monday, October 19. Please check your email for a survey link. The survey closes on Friday, October 23.
At a special meeting on 10/5/2020, the school board voted to move the color of operations from “orange” to “yellow”. Their decision was based on Kootenai County remaining in “yellow” for the month of September. What this means for you and your student is beginning on Monday October 12, all students will be attending classes 5 days a week. To view the Post Falls School District reopening plan click here.
Late start Mondays return, so school begins later for students. If your child rides the bus, please note the bus will arrive 25 minutes later on Mondays. Departure times remain the same Tuesday – Friday.
In yellow, social distancing is not possible in most of our classrooms, so students will be expected to wear masks during class as long as the Panhandle Health District mask mandate remains in place. Teachers will be providing students with mask breaks throughout the day.

District Back To School Newsletter
On July 29th, the Post Falls School Board approved the PFSD Reopening Plan 2020-21 (link). As you know, the school district must be able to respond quickly to changing local, regional, and state conditions due to COVID-19. Our reopening plan includes a Green, Yellow, Orange, and Red system which outlines what students, staff, and parents can expect under the different conditions. In developing this plan, our goal was to provide flexibility and consistency for students, families, and staff while mitigating risks and minimizing the spread of COVID-19.
For planning purposes, all PFSD parents are strongly encouraged to complete a short survey regarding their intention to return their students to school. This very brief survey called “Enrollment Intent Form” is being distributed to the parents of all currently enrolled PFSD students through email.
The PFSD website will be updated as the start of the school year approaches. Because the health situation continues to evolve in our area, by the end of August, the school district will determine which level of operation (green, yellow, orange or red) for our September 8th reopening.
