The Post Falls School District Board of Trustees approved a recommendation for a supplemental levy election to be held on May 18, 2021. The replacement levy amount, if approved by patrons, will remain at $4,955,000 per year for two years. The current supplemental levy expires on June 30, 2021.
What is a supplemental levy? Idaho school districts have the ability to “supplement” the basic budget revenue they receive from the state by asking local school district patrons to vote for additional funds. A simple majority of local patrons can approve a supplemental levy request.
Why a supplemental levy? State and federal funds do not cover all educational opportunities and programs provided in PFSD. Supplemental levy funds = 7.5% of the overall budget supporting existing programs and staffing. 93 of 115 school districts in Idaho have supplemental levies.
