Post Falls School District nursing services partners with school district staff and community members to minimize a student's medical barriers to education.
Direct student services are a primary part of our role. Nurses work with students of all grade levels at individual building sites. Nurses assess illness and injury, give first aide and make appropriate referrals. School nurses work to limit communicable disease through prevention, early intervention, isolation as necessary, and notification of parents regarding possible exposure.
Immunizations are a mandatory requirement for school registration. There are several options within our community for immunizations. If resources are needed, see the Community Services/Family resources link at the bottom of this page or contact school nursing services. Children born after September 1, 2005 must have a minimum of 5 DPT, 3 Polio, 2 MMR, 3 Hepatitis B, 2 Hepatitis A and 2 Varicella. Children born after September 1, 1999 through September 1, 2005 must have a minimum of 5 DPT, 3 Polio, 2 MMR, and 3 Hepatitis B. Children born on or before September 1, 1999 must have a minimum of 4 DPT, 3 Polio, 1 MMR, and 3 Hepatitis B. For 7th grade enrollment Tdap and Meningococcal boosters are required.
Vision screening: School nurses conduct vision screening clinics for Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th, and 6th-8th grades annually, as well any teacher or parent referrals. Nurses then send a referral home to parents with any questionable results. We have wonderful resources available for students that do not have vision insurance and whose parents qualify. Student Health Alerts are care plans that contain student-specific medical information. They equip staff members working directly with a child to ensure a safer environment for that student. If your child has a medical issue such as diabetes, severe allergies, seizure disorder or another chronic illness, please contact school nursing services. We can work with you to develop a safe plan of care for your child within the school setting.
