Heritage Health Provides Health Services to Students in North Idaho

The School Based Health Center (SBHC) is a collaboration between the Lakeland School District and Heritage Health. The SBHC is a mobile health center that visits various locations around the school district on a rotating schedule and welcomes students of all ages as well as all community members. This is Idaho’s first School Based Health Center, and a tremendous opportunity for students, their families and relatives to access quality healthcare close to home.

The goal of the School Based Health Center is to meet students and other patients where they are and reduce barriers to healthcare. The SBCH provides important primary, preventative and early intervention healthcare services, as well as comprehensive health assessments, medication, vision screenings, treatment of both acute and chronic illness, health education and mental health.

The SBHC, just like any other Heritage Health Clinic, will bill insurance whenever possible in order to sustain the program. However, students will always receive care, regardless of ability to pay. Click here for a schedule of the Mobile Clinic locations and for phone numbers to make an appointment.

District Construction Update

The citizens of Post Falls School District approved a $19.5 million Bond Levy in March of 2015 to fund numerous construction projects throughout the district.  The following is an update regarding the progress to complete the approved projects:

River City Middle School Second Story Addition
The River City addition was available for students and staff when school started on September 8.  Eighth grade students have occupied the second story classroom addition.  The district owes a debt of gratitude to our contractor, CNI, for being able to complete the project on time.  The construction timeline was very short considering the size of the project.

New Elementary School
The district conducted a bid opening on July 28, 2015 and has awarded the bid to Contractors Northwest Inc. (CNI).  The project construction is underway.  Footings have been poured and masonry block walls are being built.  The timeline is to have the outer shell completed before winter (“dried in”) in order to allow interior work to continue. The new school will be ready for occupation prior to the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year.

Mullan Trail Elementary School Update
This summer Mullan Trail Elementary School went through a major update with the addition of new energy efficient windows, exterior siding, new dropped interior ceilings, new carpet and paint.  The project was ready for staff and students this fall.

Heating Units
The district installed new heating units in three buildings this summer; Frederick Post Learning Center, Mullan Trail Elementary School and Seltice Elementary School.  The new units replaced units that were over 35 years old.  The new heating units are energy efficient models.

High School Auditorium
The district architect will begin putting the finishing touches on construction documents for the Post Falls High School Performing Arts Auditorium project.  The goal is to put the project out to bid prior to the new year.   Upon bid approval and appropriate construction weather, the district would like to begin construction early this spring.

High School Auxiliary Gymnasium
The district architect is also working on the construction design documents in preparation to bid this project at the same time as the High School auditorium project.  This project will be constructed during the spring and summer of 2016 as well.

Frederick Post Learning Center Update
The district will update the Frederick Post building during the summer of 2016.  This major update will include the addition of new energy efficient windows, exterior siding, new dropped interior ceilings, new carpet and paint.

West Ridge Elementary School Classroom Addition
Two classrooms will be added to West Ridge Elementary School during the summer of 2016.

Ford Receives 2015 District Leadership Award

Assistant Superintendent Becky Ford was recently named the recipient of the Idaho Association of School Administrator’s prestigious “District Leadership” award.   The purpose of this award is to recognize practicing Idaho Superintendents or Assistant Superintendents who have modeled positive effects in promoting public school education in the state of Idaho.  The recipient of the award is selected, in part, based on their contributions related to: advancing classroom instructional practices, the facilitation of integrating new technology into classrooms, the maintenance of a self-appraising, goal-based management system for principals, and the modeling of professional behavior that promotes the development of positive school climates and respect for the profession.

“Mrs. Ford is an outstanding educational professional and this award is long overdue”, said Board of Trustees Chair, Donagene Turnbow.  “The staff, parents and especially the students of Post Falls School District are lucky to have a leader of Becky’s caliber in their lives.  She is and has truly made a positive difference for our schools, staff and children”.

Mrs. Ford has served as the Assistant Superintendent of Schools since 2001. Prior to 2001 she held the position of Director of Elementary Programs and was the principal at Prairie View and Frederick Post Elementary Schools.  She holds an Educational Specialist Degree from Washington State University.
